Maza Wanawake Kwanza Growers Association The twelve members of the Wanawake Kwanza (Women First) growers association in Maza village, Morogoro, Tanzania, have received Feed the Future support through USAID to boost their incomes and improve nutrition in the village. After only two months of growing vegetables on a single acre plot, these women have saved nearly $500. Based on their success, Maza village authorities have made an additional 1.5 acres available to the group and other women in the village are now organizing themselves into similar groups. USAID worked as a catalyst getting them started by providing initial training, seeds and a treadle pump for irrigation. Now that they are up and running, USAID will help the women to register their association, provide technical assistance and additional training and develop business plans so that they can make their efforts sustainable for the future. أعلن البنك الأفريقي للتنمية مبادرة لدعم 20 مليون مزارع في القارة الأفريقية بالبذور والتقنيات الزراعية لإنتاج 38 مليون طن من الغذاء بشكل سريع .
وصدق مجلس إدارة البنك في بيان، على إنشاء مرفق لهذا الغرض بقيمة 1,5 مليار دولار، وذلك بهدف تجنب أزمة الغذاء الناتجة عن تعطل الإمدادات الغذائية بسبب الحرب الروسية الأوكرانية .
وأوضح رئيس مجموعة البنك الأفريقي للتنمية اكينوومي، اديسينا، أن مرفق الإنتاج الغذائي الطارئ الأفريقي “سيمكّن أفريقيا من تجنب أزمة الغذاء التي تلوح في الأفق، واستغلال الفرصة لدفع التغييرات الهيكلية في الزراعة من أجل إطلاق العنان للإمكانات الكاملة لأفريقيا لتصبح سلة خبز العالم”.
ووفق تقديرات البنك الأفريقية للتنمية فإن القارة تواجه نقصًا لا يقل عن 30 مليون طن من الغذاء، خاصة القمح والذرة وفول الصويا المستوردة من كلا البلدين .
